Director's greetings

Director's greeting

Welcome to Liminka Music Weeks' website!
44th Liminka Music Camp 29 June – 10 July 2010.

Liminka Music Weeks is composed of a nearly two-week-long Music camp and its Concert series. It aims to establish itself as a cultural event catering to the tastes of all ages. On behalf of the organizers I wish to thank all parties who make this yearly event possible.

Symphony orchestra's repertoire consists of M. Ravel's Bolero and D. Shostakovich's Symphony No 5 The orchestra is conducted by Mr. Jani Telaranta. The Camp hosts eight orchestras in all: junior strings, string orchestra/sinfonietta, junior winds, symphonic wind orchestra, Brass Band, symphony orchestra, clarinet band, and the 12-member strong conductor's orchestra.

Concert series is realised by the Camp's teachers and students. In summer 2010, joy of ensemble playing is placed at the centre stage. Chamber music concert Upouusi (Brandnew), conducted by Ville Komppa, offers a rare opportunity to hear brand new chamber music pieces. The series has been designed by the undersigned.

Although emphasis is traditionally put on daily orchestral work and private lessons, camp curriculum includes a wide variety of activities. This year, Jani Telaranta's conducting course conducting course will be supported by a larger instrumental ensemble. Symphonic wind orchestra and the new, improved Brass Band will work alongside the symphony orchestra. New courses include Audition training by Erkki Palola, Colourstrings instrumental teaching organized in cooperation with our musical playschool, and Arco Groove string group course.

Our teachers are once again top-level, both nationally and internationally. Strings, winds and brasses form the foundation of our orchestras – both as instrument families and a unified entity – and are thus in key role.

Press release on the upcoming concerts and courses will be published on-line on 7 April 2010.

On Friday 2 July 2010 we welcome all music lovers and other interested parties to Liminka School Centre to see what the Camp is all about. Press info will be held in Heikki Sarvela hall at 12.30.

Older campers are invited to enjoy the facilities of the nearby sports hall, while youngsters busy themselves with various sports activities and - weather permitting - outdoor swimming.

Through this site you may enrol to the Camp between 14 February and 7 May 2010, or send questions to teachers. If you need additional information regarding application, fees or the Camp in general, do not hesitate to contact our staff at

Liminka Music Camp is not affiliated with any religious or political cause.

I warmly welcome you to Liminka!

From ideas to sounds,

Heidi Mantere
