Welcome to our renewed website!

On this site you will find information on the 38. International Music Camp in Liminka, held on 28 June – 10 July, 2004. Two weeks of intensive teaching and high-quality concerts reach their climax on Saturday, 10th of July, when our symphony orchestra climbs on stage with its new conductor, Mr. Jyri Nissilä.

In Liminka, emphasis is traditionally put on daily orchestral work and private lessons. However, in 2004, the camp will experience some gentle winds of change.

In addition to the new Director, reforms include co-operation with the Oulu Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and especially with its Festivo orchestra, whose musicians are to form our symphony orchestra’s core.

Two old courses will be extended: musical playschool, offering enjoyable experiences for the 1-6-olds, and Pop & Jazz violin course are now two weeks long. In 2004, special attention is paid to keyboard instruments: free accompaniment and the teaching of young pianists are interesting novelties, and the week-long organ course will now be coupled with harpsichord teaching.

As far as the concerts are concerned, musical summer will include both old classics and new acquaintances, such as the Baroque night.

Our teachers are once again top-level, both nationally and internationally. Strings, winds and brasses form the foundation of our orchestras – both as instrument families and a unified entity – and are thus in key role. Percussion and singing have become more popular year by year. We also enhance the development of old and new chamber music ensembles. Music theory (e.g. theory & ear training, sol-fa I and figured bass) is always important, and developing in a positive direction!

Daily concerts start with Opening ceremonies on Tuesday, 29th of June, and end with two grand orchestra concerts on the 9th and 10th of July. All concerts are arranged and realised by our own students and teachers.

You may enroll either by on-line application form, mail or fax. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the music camp staff.

Welcome to Liminka!
